Variator and belt

Post by DeanP »

I have an af18e Dio.
Just a question as to where should the belt be riding on the variator at rest. Should it be riding on the boss or partly up the sheave?
With my stock variator, it rides about 1/3 the way up the sheave at rest(IE: engine not running)

If it doesn't, does that mean that my boss is too short? Belt measures about 15mm wide.

I don't have it totally assembled yet (aft clutch not on), but I placed the belt in and it doesn't ride right on the boss. This is for both my stock variator and the Polini. If I use the Polini boss for either vari, it definitely rides on the boss.
I'm wondering why this is?
I'm thinking that when in the stock config, it should ride on the boss, but it doesn't; so why did Honda design it this way??

So I just went out and measured it(how far off of the boss)and it measured 0.080(1/16ish). I'm probably guessing not a big deal.
Thoughts?
