Any clue on variator roller weight on 82 Express NX50?

Post by ddw350 »

Doing some minor upgrades and some maintenance on my '81 Express nx50.
I've done a center spring replacement/upgrade to blue polini...and a belt.
Also fixed kickstarter.
Rollers are 34 years old and I was thinking of upgrading them as well.
Saw some minor flatspots after close investigation.
I don't have a scale that will weigh them.
They seem quite heavy for the size.
Anyone have any clue of weight on them? Thanks.

See if you can find the specs in the service manual download at the above LINK.
I can't download the manual.

Greetings:

The Aero SE05 engine was also modestly powered, making good torque at low RPM but running out of breath quickly at 8K. For such torque curves, it is necessary to shift up quickly befoer the revs get above where there is torque. Hence the Aero also had 10g stock rollers and worked well for its purpose.

I actually took 2 of the rollers out and it ran much much better, and still got to 30 mph!
I ordered new rollers that are 8 gram [they were much cheaper for some reason] and maybe with new rollers and some tweaking, I'll be good.
30 is about it for it.
I got 35 downhill, but was scared of over revving, it so I let up.

Where did you end up getting rollers at?
Also just wondering does yours start up easily? I'm pretty sure mine has a major oil leak after it sits for a couple of days it take at least 30 kicks to get started. I'm thinking of removing the oil pump and premixing...any thoughts?
