1988 Honda Elite Brakes Question
I just picked up a 1988 Honda elite 50. I noticed the brakes were worn and it was time for a replacement. So I contacted scooter swap shop and he recommended I buy the brake pads pictured which I currently have sitting on my desk, they seem to be for the 93+. I'm trying to figure out if I ordered the wrong thing. I read the owners manual and they seem to have different tension springs on the 88-93 then the 93+
Will these brake pads work with my setup or do I need to order spree brake pads?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 1988 Honda Elite Brakes Question
I'm pretty sure those malossi shoes are for the rear not the front but I could be wrong. Almost all models share the same rear shoes and and a couple share the same fronts but the later elite 94+ Has a larger set up front then your model so they most definitely won't fit the front.

Re: 1988 Honda Elite Brakes Question
Did you want fronts or rears ? That new package looks like rears.
Did you ask Scooter Swap shop about this ?
I looked at Babbitts online and they show for a 88 SA50 the front shoes have a hole the part number is 06430-131-405 they are still available from Honda at $10.16 and the rear brake shoes backing plates don't have the hole but rather a semicircle cutout, they are still available, part number is 06430-GE8-405 rear price is $17.22
So it is possible those maybe will fit the rear, but probably not fit the front.
Most people call them brake shoes, and if you had disc brakes those usually are called pads.

I was planning on buying a set of those anyway so I'll take them if you end up not wanting to use them.

Re: 1988 Honda Elite Brakes Question
Greetings:
The Aero, SA50 "early" and "late" SA50 Elites all share a 95mm rear drum. However the 1985-1993 models get by with an 80mm FRONT drum. The Malossis have a different spring design but do fit the 95mm Honda panel, front and rear.
Now we haven't ascertained, since your Elite is a 1988 model, that you don't have an SB50 Elite "E" which like the Spree has smaller brakes all around, and that "C-shaped" spring. Malossi shoes won't work on that bike.

Re: 1988 Honda Elite Brakes Question
Awesome! Thanks for the input everyone. So what I am understanding is that the back brakes should work with these new brakes shoes, but i will need to return and get different front ones. On Scooter swap shop under 88-93 there are no brakes, but there are brake shoes for the spree that look pretty similar to what i need. Would these spree pads work? I will check out the parts that Jonniespeed recommended as well!

Re: 1988 Honda Elite Brakes Question
If you use Babbits online website, you can locate factory Honda part numbers and then you will know for sure what fits.
When the parts are still available from Honda, why would you want to use non-Honda parts ?

Greetings:
You may consider locating a later model Elite brake panel along with a Metropolitan front rim. Both are pure bolt-on tubeless goodness.
