1994 honda elite sr 50 help

Post by SpreeMarc »

Hi all, bought a 94 honda elite sr 50 with 1300 miles. The trouble I'm having is it so t hold a steady idle. Tried cleaning and rebuilding the carb. New plug gapped to .28, fresh gas, idle screw on carb just seems useless. I even tried to use a carb off a aero 50 it looked the same, but same problem. Boggs down then stops.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Ebay clone carbs are never the answer. Do you have any airleaks?

Clean it again check air filter clean the carb again and burn out the exhaust then clean out the carb again. Don't buy crap not worth it. Unless the carb is physically broken rehab it.

Does that cause no idle? And why if it does.

No I'd say you got a plugged jet maybe or not getting sufficient fuel flow. But old pipes build up carbon and burning them out cleans them to maximize flow through it. Clean the carb again and take special care to make sure the pilot jet is clean. I seen people clean their carbs multiple times then clean it again and finally get it clean. Typically the Oem carbs are rock solid they just get plugged up.

Ok cleaning several times, it appears fuel is not getting into the carb, switched many petcock and still no luck.

Not an expert on this but maybe a vacuum line isn't hooked up right? Or there could be filter clogged in the tank. Not sure if elites have a filter or not in there. Are you not getting any fuel to the carb or just a small amount?

Cleaned tank and filter in it.
Vacuum line cleaned out and hooked up right.
No fuel getting in fuel bowl. Fuel is getting in line (clear fuel line)
But not pushing into carb.

Are you saying fuel never reaches the carb but it's present in the line? It takes a little bit of time for it to flood into the carb from the petcock. How long are you giving it? I had a 94 that I had to kick over a couple of times before turning it on to get the fuel flowing then turn the key on and kick it over once and fire right up. If I didn't do that it would take 10+ kicks to start. It ended up being that little filter inside the tank was clogged up. It sounds like you've tried that already tho.
I originally was going to say bystarter maybe but if the aero carb did the same thing it's probably not the bystarter. How's your reeds?
All in all if fuel isn't reaching the bowl but you have fuel in the line there must be an obstruction. Sounds like a head ache.

How do I k ow if the breeds are bad?
Fuel is not going into the carb fills the line then stops. All ports are clear and carb cleaner shoots through
