Need SA50 Electrician

Post by fairpilot1 »

I have a 93 SA50 that I got for free, I got it running pretty good, my last problem Im having is the Headlight and dash light are very dim. The turn signals, running light and brake light work great. Im not sure what to chck to figure out why these lights barely light, None of the wiring has been touched since I got it. Ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Just remember when checking the lights, that the headlight and dash light run off of the alternator, and the rest run off of the battery (at least on a spree).

I understand, but again the headlight and the dash lights are a faint orange at night when its being driven, they do not get brighter with power.
As far as I can tell all the wires are connected. I was thinking a bad ground. but not sure how to track it down.

possible bad alternator, when running I strain to get 13 volts. I thought Headlight may be bad but funy dash lights are too. Where is a good place to order parts.

I'd check the grounds b/f you start with the alternator... they usually either work or don't, and 13V indicates it's doing something.

... someone with more SA50 experience?

Grounds. It's obviously putting out more output than battery voltage. I bet with a good ground, output will rise to above 14V.

thanks for all the help, to answer one question Im in Daytona Beach FL.

Just checked tha battery

Scooter off 12.2 volts
Scooter idle 12.8 volts
Scooter full power 13.7 volts

I have tried to check the grounds I tried to trace green wire from headlight guess I will have to cut all the tape off to track it. Is there a way to temporarily use a jumper wire to test the ground to the light. Where would other grounds be mounted

There is a chassis ground and resistor hookup just before the taillight.

13.7 sounds decent.... it won't charge until you're off idle anyway. Check your grounds, esp. if you live by the ocean.

wirings are all the same but just in different places. colors are the same to. Your knowledge of the spree wiring will suffice.
