carb choke tip
I had difficulty starting the Spree. The choke bi-starter bench tested properly. My choke problem seems to have been in the float bowl where there is a small separate chamber for the choke pick-up tube. This is where addidtional gas comes from when the engine is cold. There is a small (carb jet size) opening connecting this chamber with the rest of the float bowl reservoir. On my carb, the small opening was blocked with typical gunky stuff so no fuel would enter this chamber. Therefore, no fuel could enrich the mixture for cold starting. I cleaned this passage and, voila, the Spree cold starts very well. I had never seen this design in a carb before and paid no attention when cleaning. If anyone cares to comment, confirm or correct this explanation, feel free. I will not be offended. It seems logical to me.
