How Fast Should my Stock 99 SR50 Go?

Post by itzmepete »

I have a stock 1999 SR50 Elite. The muffler was/is not restricted and both airbox openings are open. When I got it , it ran 33mph to 35 mph with my 200 lb self.

It recently started running bad. Leaning out at full throttle and doing 28mph as it missed. When I closed the throttle a bit it slowly sped up to 33mph.

I cleaned the carb, it was really dirty inside. Popped it back on, replaced the plug with a champion 327 as I couldn't find a NGK locally. Readjusted the carb and it now runs very smooth again, no missing nothing but 33 to 35 mph.
Is this about right?

Thanks Peter :?: :?:

Do a plug chop see how your running rich/lean wise.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
