ACCELERATION ISSUES

Post by mistercl »

Hey all,

I just bought a 92' honda elite and im having issues with the acceleration. Everything is ok from 1-15 mph but when it hits 15 mph it will decelerate back down. It will sometimes go past 15 when i let the gas go and accel again but for the most part it goes to 15 then drops in be. Any help would be appriciated...thanks!

Does it work on the stand? Sounds like fuel delivery problem. Clean carb, check petcock, if you have a fuel filter ensure it's not clogged up.

i would check the ramp guides and weights on the front pulley, both of these will give a bog on acceleration, most people think its the carb?

Check you plug color.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Yeah he means spark plug, Kenny always seems to advocate a "plug chop" which you can read about here:

That will jam it in constant choke mode till you plug it back in.

Have you been using crappy oil? The exhaust port may be plugged up with carbon buildup.
