Post by evilone »

This is the plug store gave me, they supposedly cross referenced it to the NGK. What plugs can I use? This is a Champion L87YC. 1987 elite se50

Thanks, I used search option and got way too many returns. That's the list I was looking for, checked tech docs but overlooked that one!

So what do you think of the electrode? It's wasted, does that look like a lean condition?

hard to tell from that angle but doesn't look too good. light gray can be lean but again hard to tell.

If you run the bike hard and have modifications done to it, you might want to go with a colder plug. BPR7HS/BP7HS/B7HS.

GN Racer, I ordered a couple GNK BPR8HS plugs. I have a 1987 elite se50p with unrestricted exhaust, ported exhaust port on cylinder, ported and polished intake, shaved 1985 spree head, and aftermarket variator with 3 gram weights. I can go about 3 1/2 to 4 miles before it acts like it's overheating. Hopefully the plugs help. I did notice the white insulator was blistered and electrode part way melted.

By the way the 3 1/2 to 4 miles is full throttle at 44-45 mph.

Give the 8 a try. The worst that can happen is that you'll foul the plug. No big deal.

I think however, that you will be fine with one of the 7's that I mentioned.

3 gram weights? I bet the bike likes to rev.... Have you tried a little heavier on the weights?

I plan on heavier rollers soon but am using the 3's since they came with variator. Thinking 7's or 9's?

Replaced plug today with the NGK 8. rough at take off but better than champion plug. Did plug chop...LEAN. Up-jetted from 85 jet to 90 jet...purrs like a kitten. Didn't have time to do plug chop, will do tomorrow and report. Oh yeah, I was hitting 47 mph flat and about 50 mph down light incline and gaining speed going uphill

GN Racer, can I get your opinion on what weight rollers I should try? What about 7's?
