Good deal on the MPH! Your engine must be revving like crazy with the stock gears. Now all you need to do is to find some aftermarket gears.
As far as weights, I usually baseline at 7's all around and go up or down from there.

I can't believe that there are no aftermarket gears for an '87 anymore. Let me check the shop that I buy my parts from. He might have some around somewhere. I should have done some stocking up...
If not check out this thread:

Looks like the guy has done a successful swap.

The dio gears work fine you just have to replace the 3 shafts with dio ones. Drop in no machining.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Straight swap? Wow, good deal!
BTW evil, here's an old trick for an '87 engine that will give you a quicker revving bike.
All of the '87 engines that I've seen have a thick heavy drive face. swap it with one out of an '86 Aero, since it had a kickstarter that year.
Drop in some lower gears and you're good to go!

Thanks for the info on the drive face. The guy chevyguyjay has helped me alot with my motor setup and if I go with them gears it will be with the big bore kit too, he said it took all his lower end.

So you go from 6x3 grams to 3x7x9 gr. you change weights 1 gr. at a time after your center & clutch springs are set.
some people dream of speed, i own your dreams!
