Spark-plug torque?
Hey, what is the spark-plug torque? Just approx. doesnt need to be exact. Reason for asking is i have had so much unfortunate things happen to my Spree, that i really don't wanna have to get a new head if i strip it. It's already been out of service for over a month and a half!! I know that usually you just tighten until it stops or feels very tight, but i'm not taking anymore chances.
-1984 Spree,
Aluminum heads are easy to strip out. Honda gives no number, only this statement.
"With the plug washer attached, thread the spark plug in by hand to prevent cross-threading. Tighten the spark plug another 1/2 turn with a spark plug wrench to compress the plug washer."
That said never more than 15 foot pounds.
Remember that your hand and arm are not a calibrated torque wrench and will always over torque. As said before, over torquing in and aluminum head is a short trip to disaster. Even though you can heli-coil the hole, you do need to remove the head to do it right.

Thanks for the reminder. The 1/2 turn is with a new plug and/or washer even a 1/4 turn will work with a new plug. An 1/8 turn is with a used plug and/or washer. There is a lot of crush in the new washer, not so much in a used one.Dac wrote:whoa, i thought you had to go till tight then 1/8 turn more. Not half, have seems crazy.
