So I got my spree all put back together just to bring to the DMV. Woot got my plates n tags and had a nice little put on the streets. The spedo says I was averaging 25mph... I felt bad goin fast cause it seems like she's strugglin. and hills oh my she does it but I can feel her grumbling about maken her work so hard. The only unenjoyable part of my venture was stalling out every time I stopped and believe me there were alot of stop signs on the way oh well, I'll be checking the exhaust, make sure its not plugged up and possible adjusting the idle a littlebit.
is 25mph a good average or should I be going the full 35mph?
Just curious as I live in Cali too, what kind of fees did you have to pay to get your plates and current registration? Also what kind of paperwork did you need to bring to the DMV?
Thanks,
I paid $140.
I had lein sale paperwork since it was from an impound yard, title/plate replacement form, and one more form.... sorry, most of it came with the leinsale paperwork andI didnt pay much attention
Actually Michigan is $15 for 3 years PLUS a $10 title transfer fee PLUS tax. After that it's just $15 per 3 years. I just registered mine yesterday and was horrified to find out that my "96 Elite 50 S" came up in their sytem as an 89 Elite according to the license sticker on the rear flap. The guy I bought it from ripped me off! Note to self: always double check the VIN number to see what make/year/model it is BEFORE your purchase! Mine has had the all that info removed from it, and appears to be a variety of parts slapped together. So it MIGHT be part 96, part 89, part who knows what! Lol. I'm sticking with what Secretary of State says for now, so that there's no question of legitimacy about my scooter! Lol. It looks like it has a Dio motor from what I can tell - but even the motor model # has been welded over! Ugh. Live and learn...

The early Spree was not real powerful. The 86 went to dome piston and that helped some. But porting and carburetor still holds it back. I would say you are doing about what can be expected. You can't expect it to compete with the Elites.

FREEEEE, until some cop in a bad mood pulls your cheap butt over and starts writing. The ticket(s) will cost more than doing it right to start with and on top of the ticket(s) you will have to show the judge all the legal paperwork (fees paid) to make it street legal anyway. Always better to do it right to start with than getting cute. The government will punish you for thinking they can't tell you what to do.
