Quick carb connection question

Post by eclypse »

I just got done cleaning out the carb for the first time ever.. Then i go to put it all back together and i'm a little puzzled by the overflow tube.

I'm thankfull i took pictures of it as i was taking it apart so i'd know where what line goes where.

So my question is the overflow tube in the pic below goes up to the large bystarter cap.. Well thats how it was when i took it off. Is that right??

I ask cause in Dac's guide to easy carb cleaning it shows the overflow tube that alot different from this one as that one is a half tube that just drips the overflow on the crackcase and this one the line goes up into the bystarter cap.. which dont look right to me as it would'nt seem like it would work right as the overflow would have to travel up to pore out.

On my 88 elite LX the overflow tube is the same as in Dac's photos..

The PO hooked it up wrong. That hole in the bystarter cap is for the throttle cable.

The "overflow" tube (really more like a breather tube) has been replaced by PO with regular rubber line. It should be a ~90 degree angle tube pointing down.

? I thought at first it was wrong but then after looking online at a honda dealer parts list it shows the same tube which looks like it would hooked up the same. This is for the Honda elite SR50 01.

On my 88 SA50 LX its just like the one on the right in the pick you posted.

I'm lost with what you said.. The connection on the bystarter is for the throttle? PO? Is that "Previous owner"??

That is not an overflow tube. The original position was correct.

Ignore what I said - I thought that was a different carb. Looks like the breather outlet IS molded into the bystarter cover on that one. Which model and year is it?

AF05E and AF16E are almost identical in that, at least in principle. Now would somebody explain to me what purpose it serves. I've never seen anything in writing to clarify that.
