i followed this whole carb tunning guide and actually down jetted the pilot.. but i will order some new pilots, only have a 50. i even bought a infrared gun to check temp and was pretty accurate at the time maybe ill look into that a little more... as far as tuning pilot how do you go about??? and how do you check it???bakaracer wrote:if your running a 48 pilot in a 28mm carb, its running lean down low so that will include your 1/2 throttle area. you should be running at least a 52 pilot if not 55. being that your make shift cht gauge is not quick enough, Im bet its not accurate either because 220 is pretty much a idle temp for thses engines. dont let the color of the plug fool you either. if your not doing a correct plug chop. you will never know how it really running. it can turn that color in a few seconds at idle if the plug is hot.

the infared thermometer only checks surface temp and that can change really quick because of the fan blowing air across the head so that would really be inaccurate for sure. the only way to know what the pilot jet is doing is by using a good working cht. on decel closed throttle the temp will come down from its peak temp. a 48 pilot is way to small for a 28mm carb . the 48 is for a 24mm carb.

the funny thing is the 48 is the jet that came in the carb... ok ill get some bigger jets to try... thanks for the help

The jets that come in the carb are a compromise at best. Depending on your set up, you jetting may end up way different.
