The af16 can fit a larger rim and tire so it will be a better ride. And max speed for a spree is about 30mph on a good day. A af16 can be built to go 60-90mph so it's faster for sure. As for over all handling that's more about the frame your putting it in.

The spree handles very poor in stock form with its telescopic front fork design. By this time in their life the fork oil has turned into a paste more than an oil. The elite is a Cadillac compared to the spree on comfort and handling and it too suffers from poor front end design. Both can be upgraded to proper road worthy shocks and forks but require modifications that you have seen at pauls.
You have rode his bike, what did you think about the suspension compared to a stock elite? A spree with great front forks and shocks will require you to put a brace between the seat area and steering stem tube area to help with flexing caused by the new harder front shocks.

I have both a spree and elite with upgraded front forks and shocks and would never go back to stock. It has turned them both into very street worthy bikes.

What's the best way to get an AF16? I have no clue where to find them.

Buy them from someone on the board. Downsouthdio may have one.

If I were to compare a 94-01 Elite with a AF16 engine to a Spree with a AF16 engine which one is a better ride ?
By better I mean smooth ride, good handling, better brakes, faster.
If anyone has driven both, please share the info.

Elite is a better ride.

It has better front suspension,a bigger seat, bigger gas tank, and bigger brakes.

Top speed will not be any different on a spree with a af16 swap.

An elite also has storage under the seat as well as a glove box up front.

Here is a video of a 1987 72cc af16 swapped spree chasing a 1987 72cc af16 swapped elite s

I love the thunderdrome videos, especially yours. Why is it a guarantee that you will see an old 740 turbo volvo at every scooter event.
It reminds me how happy I am to have gone to the zx50 12 inch rims and front suspension with the rs24 on back.

Are there events to score scooters or scooter parts? I'm talking about things like flea markets and such.
