Well, the first carb I purchased finally arrvied last week. I was all excited, until I took it out of the package to find it was an Elite carb, not a Spree carb.

That day, I purchased another carb from another forum member, and it is set to arrive either today or tomorrow. I will keep this thread updated.

On the Elite carb, the bystarter port is on the wrong side and would interfere with the rear shock.

I just got the correct carb in the mail, installed it and VOILA!! It runs fine at all angles and when I sit on it. Took it out for a quick spin around the block and got it up to about 25MPH (going down hill)..

Very happy to finally have this problem behind me.

Thank you to all that gave me ideas on what to look for!

Now I wish I could go back to the guy that sold this Spree to me and ask him if it honestly ever ran right for him.... :jack:

Did you ever find a solution for this? I have an 84 gyro and it acts this way... I think it does it when I coast.. I can drive just fine but when I decelerate it dies as if I hit the kill switch.. you can hear it bogging when I accelerate but no fire? Stumped.. any help,or thoughts is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your pilot maybe clogged. It is a tiny brass tube going up adjacent to the main jet column. It must be clear to get a consistent idle after the bystarter circuit closes after warm up. Search here on the forum for pilot. Let use know once you have confirmed that is is clear.
I'm more than happy to explain it to you. I'll even draw you a picture! But I can't understand it for you.
