Argh! Scooter won't start + father-in-law = Frustration

Thanks, I actually have three sprees and the reed question was unrelated to the starter being stuck on spree - which could only mean a bad relay since turning the key off, etc, did not stop it from cranking and cranking its little heart out. I have not looked at the relay yet, it is sealed or could water have gotten to it?
