did you re-install your petcock correctly?

How can you not reinstall the petcock properly? Now connecting the lines backward yeah, but actually installing the petcock on the tank is pretty tough to screw up.

If the petcock point it forward, that may be happen. other than the petcock not in the original position, I can't think of any reason why the fuel line will short that much.

I unscrewed the petcock and corrected the angle the lines pointed at, however, those lines were in rough shape. I went and bought some new lines



They're connected with some radiator clips, I prefer them, easier to undo.

Was told by a wise one to take the tank off and clean it. I took it off a poured out the remains, it was all brown. Rust. Awesome. Any ideas how to clean a tank well? I'll look for a forum post on it.

Cycle shops sell 2-part kits for tank cleaning. Kreme is one brand. There are others. You can follow directions on the package, but consider using a half-dose for the 1-gallon scooter tanks. The kits are for cleaning 3.5 or bigger tanks.

Don't breathe the fumes from Part I. Part II is a coating agent of some type.

Wow. I feel dumb. After procrastinating for a long time, I filled the tank up (off the bike of course) with toilet bowl cleaner and it sizzled and smoked, and it cleared the tanks gunk right up. This really wasn't a bad idea, so don't post on it being one. But after rinsing the tank out (put hose in filler spot) I saw water flowing out of 3 areas, the 2 spots on the petcock, then another magical gap on the side. Found my leak. ordering a new petcock very soon.

Never even thought to check, is there an o ring by chance that could be busted inside the petcock? anybody?

For water to be flowing out the vacuum port on the petcock, the diaphragm must be torn or dissolved by Toilet cleaner. There is an o-ring in the assembly, but it seals around the white plastic screen - from memory. There really isn't an internal o-ring that can be accessed in the Spree/Elite crimp-closed petcock. (Other bikes' petcocks are screwed together and can be disassembled and restored. Not these.)

Ah, well that sucks. Called Lakecycle (local honda dealer) and they said $47 for a new one. Yes, I know a dealer will charge you an arm and a leg, but I didn't think it'd be THAT bad. Ouch. I have an extra petcock on the second frame and motor I got, but the tank is a rust bucket (pun intended) and not sure if the petcock is any good at all.

Deepinnaharta Honda charges $45.56 for the '86 Spree petcock too. The good part is they can get it in on the next day's truck if it's in warehouse, and they don't charge any shipping.

A crafty guy can finagle hardware store plumbing parts into a half-assed petcock substitute.

Wow, that is quite a good thing coming to think about it.

I would never consider myself a crafty person, so actually trying to do that would result in my leg catching on fire via gas leak LOL

Ordered a new petcock. Maybe this * will be running soon?

Gah, fml. Now after reinstalling new petcock, replacing fuel lines, replacing all fluids, no dice. Not even turn over. I'm not too worried about that, I hardly tried to start it. However, I started smelling gas, so I inspected the bike, and there was fresh fuel on the gas lines (Mostly on the vacuum line) any idea what's happening?
