So I took the starter relay out and plugged a wire in where the green/yellow wire would go. Then I grounded that wire. Then I tried starting scooter with electric start while brake light was on and it did nothing. Also the starter relay doesn't look to good as you can see in the picture.Image
You tested nothing, the plug has to be on the relay and you ground the wire thru the back of the plug.

Ok I did it correctly this time and the only thing that happens is that the oil led bulb turns off when its the starter relay green/yellow wire plug is grounded while the brake light is on.

You need to go thru all the wiring and make sure everything is connected to where it is suppose to be, because something isn't where it should be and is where it should not be.
2.Brake Cable set up? Here is video I posted explaining problem http://theprojectboy.tumblr.com/post/26 ... rake-cable
The cable routes down the front of the vertical tube, not behind it. Yes, the cable goes thru the hole, take the stupid nut off and it will fit fine. Beside the nut has to come off to connect the the brake.

LOL I know the nut has to come off I just kept it on the cable so I wouldn't loose it. I have tried to fit cable into that hole without that nut on but it doesn't seem to fit. I guess I will mess around with it some more after I reroute the cable to the front of the tube. Also any ideas on the electric starter?

So currently the I modified the brake cable and now its working for the rear brake. The engine case has all of the bolts it needs.
So now I just have a last few things to do:
1. Fix electric starter motor problem
2. Put Horn onto the frame of the scooter
3. Put body panels back on and turn signals

Just curious, but where did you order your brake cable? I had a similar issue, it was fixed by slight modification with a grinder. The ebay seller (chopchop) was more than accommodating with a full refund and his apologies. Cable works fine now, but I was just curious to see if this was still happening.

-Cheers.

Probably not a great option, but didn't the 87 spree come with kick start? So if you source a kickstart cover for the trans from an 87 you can at least ride it while you're fixing the starter problem.

Can he just try bypassing the starter system alltogether to test the starter and jump it straight to the battery?

You can bypass the relay to try and start your bike. Unplug the harness for the relay and you'll see the yellow and green wires, and two red wires. Turn the key on and kill switch off, then take a pair of needle nose pliers and short the two heavy gauge red wires. The bike should turn over. Don't try to wire a button to this, you'll fry it. Just do that for testing and tuning. Oh, carb screws. Bottom one should be all the way in (it's a bowl drain) the middle one should be 1 1/2 turns out, and set the idle to whatever the bike likes. Rear wheel shouldn't spin but the scoot shouldn't almost stall. Hope this helps, I'm having some troubles with my 85 Spree. Long story. :eyeroll:

Red 87 Spree... Ended up buying the same one mentioned below.

I started riding my uncle's 87 Spree at the drag strip when I was 8...

It's easier to stop caring three years ago than it is to fix it in present time.

Oh, make sure you use insulated pliers, or wear leather gloves so you don't electrocute yourself. :-)
