Greetings:

Lots and lots of nooks and crannies in a crankcase. When the engine runs, a little pool of oil forms in the bottom into which the flywheels dip. Their spinning flings and scatters the viscous oil under the piston and recirculates a trickle into the little holes that feed the bearings.

When a piston grenades, the aluminum metal and oxide powder can combine with the oil form a paste that packs itself into the aforementioned nooks and crannies. Repeated solvent washing appears to have dissolved all these deposits and you drained them away. Without a visual inspection, however, it is not possible to be positive that the solvent has reached them all. Maybe some is packed up on the "ceiling" or maybe there's a drip hole that is still completely plugged. You've done all you can with the slosh-and-drain method, and I like your idea of catching the drippage in cheesecloth to inspect for residuum. Thet-thar's some Science. (Pronounced "Sance"..) :)

Unless someone has been successful six or five times out of ten doing it, we're all just guessing. I wish you luck and would thank you if you post the outcome either way.

I will most definitely post the result either way. I will wait three months to give final assesment. That should be long enough to call it a success I think. Obviously if it blows up before that I will give that result at the time. I have read here in this forum and at other forums of people having success doing this sort of method. I also read here people saying it does not work but none of those people have any personal experience to relate on it so it just sounds like supposition.

I received my piston and other parts today. I snapped one of the rings on the intall of the piston into the cylinder. Very frustrating. Now I have to order and wait again.

If you could try and read a little more closely you would see it broke when trying to get the piston in the cylinder. I had installed the "easy" to install rings onto the piston just fine.

How did I know you would respond to this thread with yet another insult. I guess you are just one of those types of people.

@ paulpauly STFU :eyeroll:

You are not trying to be helpful at this point.

The bottom of the piston skirt chipped off, its not like the piston melted .
