Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

I was driving my Spree the other day and I felt the machine slipping and then going a little slower than usual.... Then all of a sudden it made a little noise near the rear tire and then revved really high. now the machine runs... But doesn't move. it is essentially in neutral. How do I fix this?

Broken belt. Pull the cover and replace the belt.

To replace the belt unscrew all the bolts holding the cover on you will need to hit the cover with a rubber mallet because there is a locating dowel once you get the cover off you will need to pull the front pulley off so remove the bolt and take the pulley off the bolt is kinda hard to get off with a ratchet so i always use an impact gun to remove the bolt. you can either order a new belt from Honda or go to a place like auto zone and bring your old v belt and get the same one honda wants like 20 bucks for a belt but auto parts places only charge 4 or 5 bucks just make sure you get the right one.

Honda drive belts have very specific size widths. I would be very hesitant to use a car parts store fan belt instead of an actual drive belt. Check the Good Links for Parts thread, you can order the drive belts from the OEM stores online.

Actually one of the drive mods is to use the SAE sized belt in replacement of the Honda metric belt. The SAE belt (1/2") is slightly wider than the Honda belt, giving a slightly higher final drive ratio to increase top speed.

And where do you get such a belt and what is the number?

I watched a video this morning of a guy doing a belt and variator for a Ruckus.

Thanks mouse. I spent the day playing with several docs at American Lake VA Hospital today and only got home a 1/2 hour ago. The good news is I don't have cancer. But I did have all the info stashed away so I would have it the next time I need it.

1/2" 24" belt is ~3/4" shorter and ~.150" (1.3mm)wider.

If you are still looking for a replacement drive belt, i recently bought, but have not yet received a Kevlar belt from Monster Scooter Parts, I crunched the numbers and with the help of a lot of research (mostly this site) found that a kevlar replacement is the wisest choice for me (i have an 86 Spree). It is just over a half inch longer than stock and .16 in wider.
The downside is that it runs $35.00 plus shipping, but you probably wont need to replace it for a loooooong time (hopefully)

If you want to wait till i get mine i will let you all know how it fits so you don't waste your money.

Be careful putting to short of a belt on. If it gets too tight you can break your rear driven pulley overtime.
