Acceleration is SLOW..........................

Post by oliveskate »

I have a 89 Honda se50 (sa50)
And when I'm at a stop sign, red light etc... and want to go. It takes a while to accelerate and go with the traffic. To go around 1-30 take's a while (too long), and it's really really slow, but once I get to 30-60 it's fast. (THIS IS IN KM/H'S)
When i first got it, going 1-30 was fast, and easy to do. Stop signs and red lights weren't a problem. Now when I stop, it take's a while to accelerate and get going.
Any suggestions on what to do, to get this fixed.

Thanks,
oliveskate.

6g would be a bit light, 10g is stock, 9g is great for a near stock setup, clutch springs would be the next thing to check.

Ok cool stuff.
Is there any specific size I need to look for when getting a new spring.

Thanks :)

get yourself a roller weight variety pack that has a bunch or different weights in one pack. that way you can fine tune your bike.

oliveskate How many miles do you have on your bike? if its over 4000miles or 6400Km you should look into decarbonizing the exhaust port.sometimes the exhaust port window will build up with carbon and restrict the exhaust flow causing some loss of power because of crappy oil being use.

Do you hear the engine revving up high, or does the engine stay pretty mild and quiet the entire time?

It's rev's pretty high. Just to get to start going and start moving can be a real pain in the *.

I got over 11000km's that I know for sure of. How do you decarbonize a exhaust? Any guides or manuals on how to do so?

Thanks!

Either the clutch or the belt is slipping. Open up the sidecover and measure the belt, it should be 14.5mm or wider. If it is looking good, your clutch is the next suspect.

I would pursue that before the muffler burn. Basically you put the muffler in a fire, burn it till no more smoke is coming out, then take a metal hammer and beat it to get the carbon bits out. My spree was ran with some unknown oil and there was a 1/4" layer of crap in it, I had to cut the muffler apart to get it all out.

Ok, I'll have to measure the belt.

But I was reading and it said that every 1000 miles or so, you should replace the weights.
Also a new variator that I was looking at will add around 5-7 mph, and the new weights also should help. I think they need to be replaced for sure. Not a question about that I think. Also about burning the muffler in the fire sound's like why it could be a problem also. So I'll have to do that.

Thanks :)
