BIG probs getting new tire to seat right on the rim!
I'm having serious problems getting a brand new tire to seat right on the rim.
First time taking off and putting tires on and i feel like a pro now.. I get get them off and get it on no prob. The prob is that i cant get the tire to sit right on the rim! The inner edge of the tire is falling into the center of the rim and wont for nothing expand and seal on the edge in one spot up against the rim. Its good all around the rim but on one end.
I've tried using a thin strap to tighten the tire to the rim and put air in it but that dont work either.
I've got some new 3.00-10 tires and i'm using new 2.50-2.75 tubes. They sent me the wrong tubes as i ordered 3.00-10 tubes.
For the * of it, i pumped up one of those 2.50-2.75 10 tubes and was surprised at how large it was and seemed like it would work.. they even seamed taller then the 3.00-10 tube that was in there before.
Any ideas how to fix this prob??

use soapy water or wd40.spray it around the edges of the rim and tire and try again.
Nothing like getting stroked!

i had the same problem and i solved it buy using wd40 around the rim on both sides, over inflating, and leaving it in the sun for like half an hour...when i came out all was goodbakaracer wrote:use soapy water or wd40.spray it around the edges of the rim and tire and try again.

Ahh... So thats the trick. Ok well i cant do that tonight with no sun. I hope i have some WD-40 laying around somewhere. DOnt want to use water as it will help the rust hehe.

you don't need sun for that. you can just spray and inflate.don't go over 70psi or kabooom.

I suggest you deflate completely first and have a look around to make sure the tube isn't obstructing the tire. Poke it back in all around and double-check. Inflating a trapped tube will Ka-Boom long before 60 PSI.
I like the idea of soapy water. Over the years, it won't eat into the rubber of the tube or tire bead. Trapped WD-40? I can't be as sure. It's not a problem unless your life depends on your tires.

Ok soapy water it is. I do know that WD-40 will eat metal so...
Yeah i've checked the tube plenty of times when i deflated the tire. Its tucked in good.
Now to find that tire gauge.

and im not sure about the long term of the wd40 in the tire...but i didnt use alot, i couldnt hear it sloshing around once filled

wd is petroleum based and it would be good for metal and it does evaporate after a while and just leaves a very slight oil film behind but thats it.been using that method for over 19 years with no issues of rust on steel rims or corrosion on the edges.only rust in the middle of the drop section but thats from pumping air that leaves water vapors in there.

And it does. Even at 30mph, an accident can be serious. Wife had a flat on the rear of her E the other night, tube spun very quickly. I'm glad it wasn't on the front. WD-40 is hygroscopic and will draw just as much moisture to the wheel as soapy water. I've got a homemade solution called Ed's Red which has enough oils to help the tire slip over and then into the bead, and then dries so there is no oil to soften the rubber.
I've been around tire shops all my life and always blow the tube out and then release the air to let the wrinkles fall out before final inflation, even on truck tires.

-remove (unscrew) the actual valve in the valvestem. using 2 SMALL flathead screwdrivers can unscrew it, or there is a tool available at any bike shop, AutoZone, etc.
using a COMPRESSOR that has about 60-100 psi in the tank, fill the tire w' air. *carefully* -usually the strong blast of air will seat your tire to the rim.

Best way in the world to ruin a valve stem (which ruins the tube) is to use the wrong tool, such as a screwdriver, to remove the valve core. The right tool is inexpensive. It's called a valve core remover.-remove (unscrew) the actual valve in the valvestem. using 2 SMALL flathead screwdrivers can unscrew it, or there is a tool available at any bike shop, AutoZone, etc.

Well i used the soapy water and got both tires to seat right no probs! Pretty awesome.
Finally felt safe to run at max speed with the new tires and new helmet. I believe the elite is hitting around 47MPH.
Now heres a quick question about tire pressure.
On the Pirelli SL 26 tire it says 47 PSI Cold.. I only put about 22psi in the front and about 30-35 in the rear. It really didnt feel like i could go anymore as the tire is really tight.
Is that safe? Do i go off of what the tire says? Its a tubeless tire but i have a tube inside. The tube is smaller at 2.5-2.75. Wish i new what the max PSI the tube can handle as theres no writting on the tube nor on the dang box it came in. Its a IRC brand if that helps.

Don't worry about the tube. It's inside the cocoon. 47psi is high. I generally run 35 in my car and 40 in my truck, so I would say 30 would be just fine for scooter. Most of recommentations on cars has more to do with comfort than tire strength. The scooter tire may be able to hold 47psi, but it will be hard. But I like that better than mushy.
