87 elite 50s will not start

87 elite 50s will not start
It only starts with starting fluid and I already know it's bad for the reeds. Gas pours out of the bottom hose of the petcock and floods the * out of it and I don't think thats how they work. Do I have to buy a new petcock? Should I still clean the carb and give it a tune up?

New petcock is required, the non replaceable diaphragm is torn. Replace fuel and vacuum lines while you're at it, it doesn't hurt to drop the carb bowl and see how things look.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
