Electrical help needed- no turn signals

Post by L3ft2 »

Running spree that starts every time. However the only light that works is the headlight. I have checked all the bulbs and they light fine. I do not have a manual and am not sure where to start looking.
I can use a multimeter and have wrenching experience.

I would like to get this fixed for my daughters upcoming birthday in Feb.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This model only has an electric start.

I removed the horn and cleaned the male spade connector. I also crimped the female spade connector to fit tighter. And the horn works every time the button is pushed now.

I redid the the fuse holder and soldered it nicely.

The rear taillight is working.

The turn signals do not work at all (front or rear) and the bulbs are good.

Welcome!

The Spree service manual is available for download at this link
http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... ?f=11&t=37

Here's some ideas:
The headlight is powered by a AC. All your other lights (and horn) are powered by the switched +12v DC.
You are not mentioning if your electric start is functional, Assumption is only kick start is working. If the electric start is working, then about all the list below is covered, check switch & lamp socket & grounds for the lamps (some grounds are via the mounting bolt & rusty bikes can have problems there)

Some common failures are:
  1. Blown Fuse
  2. Broken wire at battery terminal
  3. Ignition switch contacts for +12v switched power
  4. Bad ground connection
  5. Switch contacts for the respective lamps

You're on the right path. It's nearly always the crimped connectors. They're usually loose, dirty, or disconnected. After all, 1t's 25 years old. Take off the front panel above the fender, below the headlight. Go over all the connections carefully. Check the connections in the left handlebar switch cluster. And follow the wires under the seat, inside the side fairings. That's about it. Everything is fixable. It's not a complicated machine. If the machine has been stored, there might have been mice or birds under the seat. Clear out any nests, mouse *, etc.

im thinking there is only 1 fuse on the whole bike. flasher is on the left side next to the lock mechanism for the seat.

Hmm, your posting looks edited - good to see you have a tail light working.

Advice from the members above covers it. There's only one fuse, and with a tail light lit all is good with it.
Removal of the flasher and a temporary jumper in its place is an easy place to start. But being that you have a meter and experience, just start tracing where ever you find convenient.

I traced the wires and unplugged and plug them all back in making sure the connectors were all good and not corroded. None of the turn signals light at all.

When I put a meter to them I am finding the female connectors only go up to around 150mv max once the switch is engaged for that respective side.

Where am I losing the voltage? Is it being impeded by the flasher module or is there something else in the circuit I am overlooking.

Thanks everybody for your inputs and help!

hows the grounds? is your battery up to snuff? just for s**ts and giggles unplug your turn lites and run a jumper from the battery + to the blue wires and orange wires coming from the lite and see it they lite that way. possible the plug is bad, i know it sounds weird but its happened to me on my car. and did you change your flasher? its possible it went way south and wont let voltage thru, like mousewheels sugget pull it out and jumper wire between the leads on the bike and see if they lite. they wont blink but lite. i have isses with mine but they work just seem to back feed and my tail lites blink slightly.

Sorry it took so long to get back...

Bypassed the flasher relay module as suggested. I am now getting steady front signals.
No signals in the back. gotta do some more diggin' to find the problem there.

Where can I get a flasher module? Is there something I can get that is workable at an auto parts store?

Thanks for helpin' out!
