Thanks to everyone for being persistant in telling me that the idle jet was plugged. I had cleaned and recleaned the carb, but obviously wasn't getting the job done right. Anyone have a good suggestion/tool/procedure for getting the idle jet out of the carb for cleaning (next time :-)

You shouldn't remove the idle tube. The pin hole in the top is the only 'jet' there is. Sometimes (as a last resort) use a toothpick (wooden) as it should not enlarge the jet. Try to stick to carb cleaner and compressed air.
