Got spree running, terrible noise!
Well, after a few posts here, I got a new piston and rings, and a good cylinder, and It fired right up tonight, the noise I will be asking about it had before the rebuild, but I couldnt hear it... because the thing wouldnt run. now that is it running, I am trying to identify the noise. It is a terrible grinding/rubbing noise that sounds like it is coming from the crank case. It is not the clutch, starter gear, or any other tranny parts.
I think it is a toasted crank bearing, as it sounds like it, and It has zip power, it runs perfect, just powerless, maybe because of the bad bearing laboring the engine. It does it when idling or moving. What do you guys think?
also the starter is hard to turn it over, and sometimes just "zings"

crank
Ok, Ill try that tonight, if it does bind, what does that indicate? need new bearings? crank?
Hopefully just bearings, but you will want to check the crank at the same time.

crank
Ok I just bought a ton of spree parts from a guy, so parts will not be an issue. How do I go about checking the crank?
If I turn the crank and it binds at a certain spot every time, does that mean the crank is bent?

spree noise
If your spree is still making the noise it might be a peice of the piston broken off in the crank and it could be getting caught on things when it is running. Just a thought. cya

bearing
Ok after hours of frustration, I finally got it running! it sounds great (outer crank bearing was FRIED) and crank was bent. Put in new parts, fired right up, and nice and quiet. It still seems low on power, either that or I am just too used to my aero, but say you stand up and floor it and hold back on the bars, should you be able to hold the spree or should it spin or take off, and you cant hold it back?
Also, what should I allow for break-in and how much throttle?

CRANK
When I reassembled it, it was binding when I spun it by hand, so I changed,
