After big bore kit what can I leave stock

Post by patthesoundguy »

If I put a big bore kit on my 84 spree, can I run stock exhaust and stock air box and jet, or is it futile to leave everything else stock. i think I would need to put a uni filter on and upjet and open up the exhuast a bit too. What do you all think. Im looking for some more grunt possibly, and dont mind doing some tuning if I have to like tuned pipe, uni filter and jet.

Sure you can. You will need to re-jet but some guys, like Taz, includes the necessary jet in their kit. You will realize a boost in low end acceleration from the BBK, but you will not realize the most from the top end capability of the BBK with the stock intake and exhaust systems. But then it takes a lot of screwing around to realize that max output. I don't think it is worth the effort myself.

i put the bbk on my spree. 44mm from taz. Like bear said, it came with the jet and instructions on how to modify my air box. I put an aftermarket apc filter on it instead, but could have very well used the stock box.

As bear stated, the bottom end is very noticable and Very nice. I'm sure being a spree owner, you've noticed the needed flinstone push from time to time. You more than likely wont need that after the bbk. i know i dont. i weigh 170 with steel toes and my pockets loaded and the scoot takes me along the typical crappy roads found here in my state at a decent pace. It does all of the 35 that the speedo says too, and thats at half throttle!! :ndance:

Something else i did to get a few more mph outta it was upgrade my rear tire to a 3.00 -10. With stock 41mm bore it was a Super Turd! but now that the bbk is on, its Way better!

One thing i've failed to ask yet is..what size does the 44mm bbk make the spree? is it still considered 50cc? (assuming not..)

Figure it yourself.

Bore X Bore X Stroke X .7854 = single cylinder CID

Also if it isn't 49.6 to 50.4 cc it is not 50 cc anymore.

so for ex. 44x44x37.4x.7854=56867.98656..

so roughly 56 cc then.

thanks for the great info guys! I like the idea of the bbk the more I think about it.especially if the jet is in the kit. I hate going to my local honda san to get parts, they have No personality! None! If you don't want parts for the latest machine they grumble about it the whole time I am there. I want to get a used muffler to do the pocket bike pipe conversion. Then BBK and uni filter and possiblt teak the intake a little. What size BBK does every one think I should get and how do they affect gas milage?
