1985 honda elite 80 starts but wont move
Hi everyone i been riding my scooter off and on for a month now. now starts but when i go to move it it dies out. i read manual says clutch or belt. i am going to try and take this apart and see if thats the case but i dont know what im looking for. any suggestions thanks? lorraine.
Re: 1985 honda elite 80 starts but wont move
something may have gotten in the gas tank, and went into the carb. clean carb thoroughly. then report back
Re: 1985 honda elite 80 starts but wont move
thanks for your response. but wouldnt it just not start if thats the case. it idles fine but when i go to acclerate it wont enage to move the d*** thing. and could you tell me what is this hose that just hangs down in the back rear tire?? its an open hose. i know there is one in the front that is covered that hangs down also.
Re: 1985 honda elite 80 starts but wont move
it's probably the filler hose for the gears.
and it could be stuck in your high speed venturi, and not your low speed. i would clean the carb

Re: 1985 honda elite 80 starts but wont move
okay i guess i will try that. im new to all this . so idont understand but i will get the manual out and try to fix it. im going to check the belt see if thats on then go to carb.
Re: 1985 honda elite 80 starts but wont move
so when you twist the throttle does it just rev? or does it completely bog out and die?
Re: 1985 honda elite 80 starts but wont move
it dies when i go for the throttle. starts up idles. then when i want to go it dies out.

i have a cover on it . it sits on outside with a cover. it has been raining.

i'd still clean the carb thoroughly.

So, the wheel won't turn at all while on the stand, but the engine dies?

this is exactly what I was going to ask. Will it free spin the wheel on the stand?Saved wrote:So, the wheel won't turn at all while on the stand, but the engine dies?

Greetings:
I suggest you change the spark plug on principle before you do anything else. I've lost count of the times when doing this unexpectedly solved my problem.
Sure sounds like a dirty carb issue. If the running gear isn't frozen and the engine just dies, something's happening to the mixture when the throttle opens. Commonly that's a gummy pilot circuit or clogged main/emulsion tube, although there sure are other possibilities. Mouse's nest in the airbox comes to mind...
