I was gonna derestrict the stock muffler on the one I just bought by boring out the washer in the exhaust. I figured buying an aftermarket performance muffler would be easier and better in the long run. I would like something that will help with top speed or torque, going up hills etc.

Any suggestions? I looking to spend maybe around $100. I dont need anything that costs $300 etc

Thanks

a stock muffler with the restrictions out can still go 55mph no problem with just a 72cc bore kit and 9to1 gears. if you just want to stay with the stock bore with stock gears then 45 is your max. unless you plan on adding a bigbore kit later ,dont waste your money. spend that $100 on a new belt and rollers and a performance variator.

thanks for the reply. I wasnt planning on doing a big bore kit. Just planning on a 9:1 gear ratio and high speed pulley. Would you still put the performance muffler on?

I have the top pipe on my stock bore, it works good seems to run a little hot though, I am running a kelli vari, daytona #2 ramp, 100 jet , uni air filter , it gets to the middle of the MPH on the speedo, I am also running 7 and 9 gram weights, plan on messing with jets and weights a little more, seems like it could probably use a little more RPM might and a 1k center?

all you need to do is grind out that washer all the way to the pipe wall. punch the 2nd tab on the airbox inlet and up jet to a 85 or 88 jet. get a aftermarket variator. if your going to get gears, yes get the 10to1 gear set. its better matched to the stock bore. with the 9to1 gears you loose alot of bottom end but gain topend. on down hills the 9to1 really comes in but on the flat its about 3-4mph difference on topend from the 10to1. if you were going with a bbk than i would recommend the 9to1 gears. for stock 10to1 is the better choice. oh and the stock exhaust is fine. no need to spend that extra money on something that MIGHT give you maybe .25hp or a little better torque.

I would have to agree with Baka.....if done all over again I would have kept my stock muffler with a 90 jet, the couple extra MPH arent worth the $125 ....but I do the like the extra noise..

Now that i give it some thought...you want the best aftermarket pipe for a stock bore....find a Okumura pipe...best pipe for a stock bore ever, had one about a decade ago, in all reality you wont be able to find one for under 500$....but hey dreams are for free  just an after thought
