fan shroud

I have bought fan shrouds off EBAY, said to fit 84 to 86 Spree, they are the right shape, and bolt holes line up, but shroud touches the fan before shroud can be bolted
on. Laid flat on a table, not enough height.

they have 2 shroud types. both look the same, but one is deeper, the other is shallow. 84-85 need the deeper one. 86-87 take the shallow one.

I am restoring an 85, and also an 86 Spree, the shallow shrouds won't fit either bike. I possibly have the wrong fans on these bikes, ( also bought on EBAY) .Whatever happened to honor?

I believe the fan that does not have a ring on the outside of the blades is 84-85, and the fan that does have the ring is 86-87. You have to match the fan to the shroud.

I have noticed that they dont show them different on the Honda Microfiche, but they are indeed different. If you look around enough, you will probably find pics of both on this forum.

The flywheel is what is different between the two bikes. they might have swapped it. i almost ran into the same problem but i bought mine on c list and the guy had both styles, so i was lucky.

I have now installed a fan without the ring on the 85 I am restoring. these Sprees were all parts bikes, and lots of parts were missing. I have also noticed that the bolt
length is critical. Thanks for the info.
