?Non-removable main jet?

Hey guys, my last plug chop on my 87 Tact suggested things were a tad leen so I thought I'd remove the main jet and check what size it was. After following the tech docs carefully, I've come to the conclusion that my main jet is a bit on the different side and appears to me to be "non-removeable". The top of the jet is smooth i.e nothing to stick a flathead screwdriver into. I manged to find an incense stick with a wooden handle the same size as the jet opening and i found if i used that I could get the jet to turn but not come out......am I missing something?

thats very interesting your only option if that jet/housing is not threaded may be to find an appropriate size drill bit to up the size, or find a different carb http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... =8&t=12839

The jet was installed upside down and the PO probably stripped the threads somewhere along the line. You need a small "Easy-out" and then you can probably remove the jet. But chances are you need a new or different carb.

Ahhh ok that makes sense. The Tact carb has the pneumatic style choke/bystarter that dangles by a couple of hoses. Could I get away with a Dio carb like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Carburet ... ccessories

...or would I run into problems trying to route the electronics? Any ideas?

Maybe if the electric bystarter clears the shock and everything else. Or you do the manual choke set up like I did on my Aero 80.

FYI, with a loose jet I suspect too rich rather than too lean. How did you determine the motor was too lean?

Plug chop on a brand new plug, didn't look too lean but pale enough that I thought an upjet would be worthwhile to see if I get any performance increase. I'm using a pod filter for lack of any Tact filters in existence. I guess with the pod and the loose jet it's probably balancing out about as well as I could hope. My Bajaj Chetak arrived in the post today so the Tact might be rested for a while, I'll check out the job you've done on your 80 when the novelty of the Chetak has worn off a little. Cheers for the input.
