Need more speed

Post by blaster716 »

Im new to this forum , I recently purchased a 89 elite 50 to save on gas. I mainly use it for going 22 miles to work and 22 miles home. It gets me there and back and is alot of fun but I would like to squeeze a little more speed out of it , but dont want to hurt the reliability.
Id be happy with 40 or 45 mph. I would also like to do it as cheep as possible.
Where do I start ?

Aftermarket (keli) or a Ruckus variator should get you there unless you have the Elite E.

Not to sound stupid or anything , but how do I know if I have the elite e ? the model# from the title is s5p and the model discription#is sb50p. I don`t know if this helps or not.

if it is an sb50p the it is an elite e which a variator will not fit. the only thing made for that is the 2 bbk and gears from member tazland001 here on the board. the sb50 motor is like the spree. look in the exhaust for a washer that needs drilled out, it will be on the side that bolts the the jug. you can also rejet the carb to #68, that should be the same as the elite e sb50(not sb50p).

Get some taz gears (then get them machined to fit the E)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/honda-sp ... _500wt_956
get the 44mm bbk to.

60 minutes in an hour (since I want my answer in minutes)
32 mph = current speed of your elite E (stock speed of the elite E)
40 mph = speed goal (45mph is not a realistic goal with out an engine swap) :imo:
22 miles to work

(60/32)*22 = 41.25 minutes to get to work

(60/40)*22 = 33 minutes to get to work

8.25 minutes saved!

The math on this chart is wrong for the sb50
new best 1/8th mile time 9.647 seconds @67.155 mph 310lbs total weight

The quickest and cheapest route to more speed is a wider drive belt. If you've got a 15mm wide belt, a 17mm belt will increase top speed provided that your engine has enough * to twist it. It's far cheaper and easier than trying to switch gears or pulleys. There won't be much gain if your engine is restricted, so your next step should be to focus on de-restricting, exhaust, variator, etc, in that sequence. Start with the belt first. You can do it in an evening if you've got the right tools, and then you'll know what to do next.
