1985 spree carb problem????

just got a 1985 spree with 471 miles.......its in great condition but its spewing gas out of the carb and it doesnt run right...bogs down and stalls out....cleaned carb multiple times checking and checking...the float has both the pin and the needle and moves smoothly.....starts right up but just isnt right.... any ideas.....ps convinced the carb is fine.....or maybe not?????

Their cant be two killinsprees on this forum :twisted: lol juss playin but yea sounds like the float in the bowl is wide open which is making gas drain everywhere

Lol killingspree all the way....btw how tight should the float screw be? Do you want it where the pin doesn't lift off the groove? Or so it has play but not sloppy?

Greetings:

The float pin is just the fulcrum for the float to swing around. There's no "play" - the screw has to be tight.

The tricky part to float reassembly is to ensure that the flange in the float needle is correctly engaged in the plastic "claws" of the float. There was a superb pic of this assembly in Tech Docs at one time.

The leak you describe suggests your problem is with the seal betwixt the carb body and the float needle, not with the "float pin". Sometimes a float needle can look OK and not be. ALso polish up its non-removable seat with some rubbing compound or even toothpaste. Search Colgate.
