Carb adjustment

Post by RunAckRun »

I have read the techincal document on Wikispreedia and I am not sure I am tuning the carb correctly. It is a 1986.
I screw out the top screw, 1 1/2 turns.
I screw out the bottom screw, 1 7/8 turns.
I understand this is just a starting point. I then adjust the top screw to the highest RPM without the rear wheel spinning while on the center stand.

Do I do any more adjustment to the bottom screw?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Ack

No, adjust the bottom screw first and for the highest RPM possible, wheel is allowed to turn.

Then adjust the top screw, the one that extends into the throttle valve bore, until the wheel does not turn.

Ok thanks Bear. It has been years since I have tuned a carb.

Are those starting points correct on the screw adjustment?

Yes, starting points only. even though I suspect the idle speed setting is very iffy at best.

Are these the idle and mixture screws you refer to or does the US carb have two screws to adjust fuel mix?

Lower screw closer to the carb mount flange is the idle mixture adjustment screw. The upper screw is the idle speed adjustment screw.
