so I decided to get rid of the air box

I always liked the look of the no airbox so I thought I would ditch it and switch it to a universal motorbike filter. So from the carb there is the rubber piece from the orginal air box, then I used metal exaust adapters so it would fit to the inlet of the filter. Bike starts fine, sounds great, so I take it for a run and fail. I totally bog out when I get close to full throttle and it dies to survive. If I go about half throttle it will work ok, but lost what little snap it had. Everything else is stock, any ideas of why this is happening?

On a side note there is no air leaks at all from the carb to the filter.

You are getting way too much air now..need rip run a larger jet from what I've seen on here when this happens.

So how would about getting a jet kit? My bike is an 89 so I'm not sure where in the aftermarket I should turn to.

Tape worked. I'm using a bigger filter so I needed to leave have of cm exposed to get working properly but works great now. Thanks for the help!

Listen to Trafficjamz, he is telling you the truth. You can not just remove the air filter, you will blow up the engine if you persist in doing this. This are not insensitive 4 stroke, you can't just change things without screw something up.

d*** I really hate this doing s*** of making it look cool. Making it run great should always override cute or cool looking.

I'm new to scoots, but have been around motorcycles for a while now. Motorcycle engines are very finely balanced when it comes to airflow. Too much on the intake side can cause all sorts of problems. Usually you can't do just one mod and not get away without changing jets.

Runs great after the tape. Should I still consider switching the jets?

Do a plug chop to see if the jetting is close.

I would keep the jetting the same.

If the plug chop reads lean.....use more tape

So I took it for about a 15 min drive and I now notice the exaust heats up quite a bit. Would it not be getting enough air now? It doesn't bog down, nor does it seem to lose any power.

the exhaust is supposed to get hot

Do a plug chop to tell if you are running lean or rich.

A soft sieze is in your future. Run a little oil in the gas till you figure it out.
