Tuning help, anything appreciated

Post by fastblack72 »

I have a SYM DD with:

72cc corsa
2AB crank
kelli pully
sef ramp
8 gram roller weights
stock belt
stock clutch
1500 red center spring
polini yellow clutch shoe springs
keihen 28mm 58pilot/145main (gotta double check)
8H plug
Uni filter
Needle one up from middle
intake manifold
PG short pipe

I have all the power from 25mph to about 75+
I was wondering if I lower my weights Ill get the low end take off.

**My problem is it gets really boggy off take off and it sounds like its miss firing. I keep the throttle at a quarter or so till i get to 25mph and it takes off. A quarter to half throttle will get the bike to about 60. Does that mean my jets are too big?

If I left out any info let me know.

Greetings:

58 sounds a bit big for the PG Short pipe. Consider 55 and see if the low end improves.
For sure 6x8 = 48g sounds really heavy.
Are you really seeing 75MPH? Which gears?

Greetings:

Change down the Pilot, but make only that change. If you're really getting that much on top, it's not too rich. You might even need a size bigger if you go down on the Pilot.

Down a half gram on the rollers too.

Too lean or too rich will cause misfiring and bogging. You can NOT guess. You have to do plug chops and read the plug. Guessing causes poor performance and blown motors. :eyeroll:

I am doing 3.2 oz oil per gallon. I will go and read my plug tomorrow. last time I checked the plug it was brown with a little build up on it. I will try the 7.5 gram weights. I have a 7.3 to 1 gear. I did a free way run and was passing people up doing about 65mph to 70mph. I am new to the forums and all are very helpful. I am glad to be part of the ped family now.Thank you everyone very much. Ill keep you all on my progress.

you need 4 oz of oil and not a drop less. If your trying to get 32:1 then you need 4 ounces. I think your doing Hawaiian math

Greetings;

Lots of people run less than 32:1. 40:1 is what you get with 3.2 oz, although I've found it's hard to be very accurate when measuring oil, even using a graduated cylinder. When you get tired of pouring, let the container sit some time and see how much oil isn't going into the tank.

Anyway 32:1 is my choice too. Plug seems not to become corrupted too quickly, and buildup was negligible the last time I pulled the head.

If your gears are 7.3, I have no trouble believing a 70-MPH Corsa top speed. Remember car speedometers, often used as the Gold Standard for accuracy, are not that accurate. 75 Indicated on the Family Truckster equals ~72 on Garmin.

How loud is the PG Short compared to stock? It sounds like it's not giving up much to the PG Long on top speed, based on your assertions. I wouldn't mind a quieter pipe if it doesn't kill performance.

weights 7>8.5 grams
if your skinny use lighter> if u fat start using heavy

52 is a good starting point for main> too big going bogg 1/4 throttle

get a trailtech CHT gauge> $40.00 14mm plug size

lower gears give slower take offs......

Come to find out I did have a 55 pilot. Was boggy so went to a 52. I put 3 - 8grams and 3 -7grams, my Hawaiian math totals 45grams. Plug looks good, changed it anyway so I can read um in couple days. I stay 230 pounda all fat! Nah nah! 230lbs and she yank. I have a 2000 Taiwan red center spring. So it helps my low to mid speeds. I have to up my oil, that's the only thing. 40:1, 4oz per gallon. You guys helped! Tanks to all my Braddahs!

U guys recommend goig back to 55pilot?

If you up your oil you might need to go back to the 55 pilot. Try staying with the 52 pilot if plug chop is good.
