Crank bearings again !

I am in the middle of getting replacement bearings for my 87 SE50 and have read on here that the 6203 and 6204 standard bearings will work. My question is on the bigger 6204 bearing which is 2mm thicker than the OE bearing. Is there room for this thicker bearing fit in the case or is there some machining to be done to make this happen.
Thanks

Per the book, shouldn't need to perform machining. There are 2 sizes of bearings on your crank. But if you've got crank in hand and there's only one size bearing, I can see the head scratching over machining.
  • 6204 20mm id /47mm od/14 wide -- output side of crank
  • 6203 17mm id/ 47 mm od/ 12mm wide -- flywheel side of crank

The 6204 type bearing that came out of this engine measures 20mm id x 47mm wide x 12mm thick. Has a huge alphanumerical number that does not cross reference to any other bearing. There seems enough clearance on the left side of the case half for a deeper bearing which would mean the con rod center line would be off 2mm as the crank is now riding 2mm to the left. Yea I am scratching my head quite a bit now.

6204S is the bearing I need, 20x47x12mm.

I tried the 6204 and it was to wide to pull the cases together so i got another bearing from honda that was 2mm thiner and it was a perfect fit so stick with the bearings from your honda dealer

Good info, 6204S it must be :thumbwink:
6204S Bearing Koyo (I.D 20mm x O.D 47mm x W 12mm)

Parts fiche is incorrect for many Honda models:
91001-GM4-033 BEARING, RADIAL BALL (6204)

--- Anyone got some bearing info? --
A page on bearings would be a good place for this and other info. If not, we can start with this one.

Thanks!

Yea I did not think it was going to fit in there, later cases probably have more meat for wider bearing races so on some scooters it might be correct. Only place I have seen these bearings so far is in UK but I will keep googlin. Guess I have more time to port out the case and do some polishing for the 21mm carb upgrade.
Thanks again

Most any bearing supply house can get you just about any bearing unless it is propitiatory (owned by the manufacture and that is like a patent or a copyright, it eventually runs out).

Update: Found them in USA at powersportsplus.com 91001-GM4-000 is the OE number for future reference which equals a 20 x 47 x 12mm, 6204S bearing.

Whew ! glad thats over.

Thanks

And the saga continues ! Don't order bearings from those guys, they just sent me a $5 updated 6204 bearing for $20 each and will now have to return it. The UK bearing house only has one remaining bearing in inventory and informed me that they are impossible to find anymore so this really is an endangered species on both sides of the planet. I guess the machining the case option is now looking like the best route to take now if you have one of these odd ball cases.

Has anyone found a source for this? I didn't realize what had happened until my crankcase wouldn't close tight on the new standard 6204 bearing I had installed.
