Greetings:

Honda restricted the speed of the SE50 "P" Elite to comply with some States' rules about a 25-MPH maximum speed to qualify as a "Moped". Meanwhile the SE 50 Elite S from 1987 is capable of ~40 miles per hour. Yours can get to that speed with very little work. The ramp plate is a good start.

There is more than one measure restricting the "P"s, however. You are correct that the ramp plate is an important factor. However the exhaust pipe may be another. If you dismount the pipe, look for a diameter-narrowing washer in the head pipe. (I've never actually seen one, but others can advise...). Get to work with a small grinding bit and eliminate that constriction. Some have reported some sort of blocking plate under the intake manifold as well. Perhaps get advice from fellow SE owners.

Finally, once the engine has been unshackled from the rev-limiting exhaust strangulation, look to increase the size of the carb's main jet. Your Elite might have a #68 lurking in there. (Honda's parts fiche says "82 or 85" but I think it's wrong...Check to be SURE!) The Unrestricted models had an 85 - personally verified. DO NOT run the scooter sans restrictions without upping the jet to that size, lest it breathe vapoures excessively lean, overheat and calamitous consequences ensue.

There is no washer, the pipe diameter is the restriction. You need a different muffler.

How much speed will I gain by just switching the plate?

Your link looks like the restricted version.

I believe 22131-GR1-010 is the non-restricted. You could probably just get the Keli Ramp plate, you can't tell the difference between it and the honda.

The KELI variators I have found say they are for AF16, do they also fit variated AF05E?

Thanks!

Not without modification, the slide is a larger diameter. I think AF0E is 12mm, Af16 is 14mm. Someone can correct me if that isn't right.

I would contact the seller and see if they have anymore. I may have actually bought the last one for my Aero. https://www.ebay.com/itm/85-87-Honda-Ae ... 2749.l2649

As a side note on this thread, the unrestricted version also has a different gear ratio 10.2:1 vs. 11.1:1. I'm getting 42 (I used the technigas pipe which is better than the unrestricted pipe, but not my much) before changing the gear ratio which should net 3-4 more mph.

when you changed gear ratios, did you see any torque decrease off the line, while gaining top end? or vise versa?

thanks,

I upped the clutch springs, so it seemed better off the line.
