i blew my auto bystarter and oil injector pump
So i've been having a blast driving my Aero around town, when it won't start one day.
I pull off the plastic to take a look at whats going on. Holy Sheet the first thing I notice is the oil injector pump is sticking out. aaaah! i push it back in but theres nothing to hold it in place. I try to start the bike and it starts right up. I stop the bike disturbed about this free floating pump when i notice the auto bystarter is completely gone without a trace. *? I heard a pop last time i rode the bike that didnt sound good but the bike rode fine until it didnt start. i guess the bystarter must have blown off and completely disintegrated or fallen away somewhere. how important is this bystarter gizmo? how do i get
this pump secure? anyone had anything like this happen?

Phew! You had me scared at the title of this post! Some things aren't meant to be shared.
The bystarter helps you start the scooter when the engine is cold. I would say pretty important for reliability.

I had to re-read the title if the post when I read your response, zuphilius...
Yeah, without the bystarter, you will be in for some difficult-starting...
I'd almost be more concerned to why your oil pump bracket disappeared; without the pump properly in place, you risk seizing your bore, stripping your crank, or losing your pump...
Hope you can find that bracket!! If not, soneone here is bound to have a spare-

Re: i blew my auto bystarter and oil injector pump
surprising it even ran without the bystarter. would think it would be running super lean without it plugging the hole

The bystarter shuts off the fuel, not the air. But with it gone all the engine sucks is the air, so no lean out except on startup, when there s no additional fuel.dun rite wrote:surprising it even ran without the bystarter. would think it would be running super lean without it plugging the hole

would think that without it there to plug the hole into the carb throat that it would then draw air?

Re: i blew my auto bystarter and oil injector pump
It does NOT plug the hole to the throttle bore. It plugs the hole from the float bowl, there by shutting off the fuel.dun rite wrote:would think that without it there to plug the hole into the carb throat that it would then draw air?

Bear is right, It is only used to start the scoot after that it is unused and not needed.

Re: i blew my auto bystarter and oil injector pump
Someone lost the special nut that holds the bolt that holds the oil pump in place. You can order from Honda-san for $20 or make your own with a Dremel tool and a speed-nut from the auto parts store. The attached pic shows one I made last year for my Dio.maxreverb wrote: the first thing I notice is the oil injector pump is sticking out. aaaah! i push it back in but theres nothing to hold it in place.
