"top end rebuild kit"

Post by terryc8171 »

Lost all my compression on my Saturday ride. Looking to buy kit from VTCycles (http://www.vtcycles.com/vtc_plugins/e10 ... ct=1&cat=7). I'll grab another jet for the carb as well.

Looking for other opinions, advice on anything you would do to your scoot if you were making this repair.

did you melt the piston , or score the cyl walls with dirt/debris ?

while the link you posted doesn't work, I'd be looking at big bore kits if it were mine . these are always good times to do mods

Thanks swimmingfree.

I haven't looked at the piston yet. Guess maybe I'd better look before I buy!

If you have broken parts, be sure to clean out the bottom end before rebuilding the top end.

when you brake it down not let the piston bang around or turn the crank it may put a small crack in the piston that will show up when its running ..like what happen to me

then you have to crack the case to get all the piston out of the block that's the only way to make sure you get all the piston out of there .. the allumun of the piston will get in the Bering and mess them up casing you a bigger problem .. there been a lot of people saying just turn it up side down and spry it out with carb cleaner that's not a good way to do thing ..

Obviously need a new piston. Looks like part of the clip is still there. The cylinder needs work. Any suggestions appreciated.

that looks like an improper c clip install that caused that.

c clip was my guess as well. based on the cause, should the connecting rod be ok?

double check the clearances on it. also clean out the engine case. by the looks of that piston, my guess is that there is metal pieces in there

I'll have to read how to check the clearances and splitting the case. I don't have any specialty tools if that's required.

Found a used, complete top end I can see next week. Thanks for the help. If I need help with crankcase I'll search old posts.
