89 elite wont runn???

my elite ran fine but leaked gas so everyone gept telling to check the float. So i took off the carb and took out the float cleaned everything up good with carb clean and compressed air. then put it all back together up to spec with the wikispreedia guide. But now the bike will turn over for just a few seconds and then die. maybe its not getting enough fuel???? im not sure any ideas????

you may of knock the float and nettle out of wrack.. air hose can help but can make bad things happen as well ...

looks identicle to pictures on wikispreedia, u siad replace air hose is that just the one from the petcock to the engine?

the petcock is clear when i pull the hoses and suck on the air hose gas comes out of the gas hose should run????

today i cleaned the carburator twice making sure to clean every nook and cranny put it all back together and but it on the scooter turned over and ran for 5 sec.. then died and i cant get it to turn over again... do you guys think the carb is shot? do they make aftermarket carbs for 89' elite sb50p? this carb was my second used one not had good luck....

You need to check if your float bowl is filling up with gas. See attached photo. When you put your carb back on, hopefully you installed a drain tube. Put a pan under your Spree and open the drain screw a few turns. If there is no gas in the bowl, that's your problem. Since the petcock is vacuum-actuated, it sometimes takes a minute or so of cranking the engine to get the float bowl filled up. You can also pull the vacuum line off of the intake manifold and suck on it to manually deliver fuel to the carburetor.

If it ran, however bad, before you pulled and worked on the carb. Quit wasting your time looking elsewhere. The trouble is either in the carb or how you reinstalled the carb. You don't reassemble a carb by what a picture looks like. A picture is 2 dimensional and does not give an honest view. They can be helpful but look in the carb.

Okay timmy i do have a drain hose on it i went out and opened the drain screw and only a few drops came out i pulled the suction tube of the engine and sucked on it but the carb bowl never filled up but when i pull the gas hose off the carb gas pours out of the tube... its just not getting into the bowl...

You said to look at the carb anything specific i should be looking for as u can probably figure out im a noob at this but what appreciate the help.

Anything you had apart or fiddled with. Recheck the float level and make sure there is no trash in the passage to the needle and seat. If you have not replace you hoses, do so. Old hoses flack apart inside.

Oh and when you are trying to be funny, use the smilies/emoticons to the left. I have a hard time with facial expression over the net.

okay sounds good is there a way of knowing if the float is in correctly would it help if i uploaded some pics for u to take a look at?
