Greetings:

Hmmm, spinning the wrong way? Could a previous owner swapped starters with a model whose crank spins the other way? Might be worth reversing the wires as a test.

You can't reverse the wires, the frame is always ground. You need a known correct starter.

Read my lips, the frame is ground just like the engine frame is ground. You can NOT switch the wires.

Maybe you just have two worn out pinion gears.

Honda did make different pinion gears for different scooters.

Which direction pops it out? clockwise or counter clockwise?

Wiring it backwards in NOT an option.

Sprees and SB50's have starters which rotate in reverse direction to variated AF05's and AF16's. Their engines rotate in a different direction too :)

Spree drive end mounting holes different spacing as a mechanical key. Therefore getting a reversed starter into a Spree takes more than a simple swap in from a different model.

If someone *had to* rotation change electrically, is looks feasible. It requires rework inside the starter.

There's a brush wire to the terminal, and a brush wire which screws to the case.
1) Take the lead to the case and move it to the other brush holder screw. Either screw works as a ground point.
2) Move this brush to the top brush holder.
3) Cut and extend the other brush lead and move the brush to the bottom holder.

So, in theory, I could rewire the e-starter to make reverse for a triked scooter and then use the kickstart for forward, Great info Mousewheels.
