Fuel filter is stuck

Post by Candies »

2 things: I took off the petcock valve to inspect the fuel filter but the filter did not come out with the valve. The fuel filter is stuck inside the fuel tank in the oulet hole that goes to the valve. Any suggestions on how to get it out so I can replace it? Also, I've seen that some people are talking about premixing gas. Should I be pre mixing for a 1985 honda spree?

If it's like the Elite it just pulls out. An o-ring holds it in place.
You don't need to premix if your pump works and you have injector oil in the tank.

Unfortunetly, the manual says the same thing but it doesnt and its at just the wrong angle for getting a pair of plyers in there to get it out!

Its totally ok if it's trashed. In all honesty, I broke one of the valves off into the fuel line when I was taking off the petcock so I had to order a new one and it came with a new filter. BTW it is now running still with the old filter but I would like to replace it anyways. I also think the petcock may be leaking slightly and someone suggested using plumber's seal. Does anyone else use this or should I just tighten it extra hard (without breaking the valve again)?

You need to replace the filter and the o-ring and the leak will go away. I am not a fan of gooey sealers on fuel fittings. To many times the crap ends up in the carb and causes grief.

if you dont mind trashing it just use a flat head screwdriver and start curling it over itself until you get enough of a lip to get some needle nose in there

I've never removed on that I didn't trash it. Makes me think Honda meant it that way, so the filter would get changed.

Sounds like a plan. Since I couldnt get the fuel filter in there I put the O ring in so it wouldnt leak but i still have a sneaking suspicion. Guess I'll see when I ride it today! First day back on the road since the petcock incident and its a gorgeous day here in Seattle! :coolcruise:
