Keeping rpm but stopping when under load would seem to indicate that something is slipping. I would suggest taking a look at the belt. Get the service manual if you don't have it (available in this forum) and check out the belt to make sure it meets minimum width standard - also be sure it is clean (no oil spilled on it, etc.). If the belt checks out ok, you may have to pull the clutch and check it out. Sometimes cleaning the inside of the bell and pulley with brake cleaner will do the trick. If you get this far, also check the clutch shoes to make sure they are clean and within spec.

If it still slips, you may have to look into the clutch springs - the main spring may have "softened up" over time.

The service manual is available if you go to the board index and look under "Honda Service and Owners Manuals". Look in chapter 8 - everything is behind the left side cover which you will need to remove.

If the clutches were that bad, you would smell them.
