plug length/temp?

Post by zadman2012 »

So, I just looked at my sparkplug today. I hadn't noticed that it wasn't the ngk6 I asked for, but rather an 8. the manual says a 6 is standard use, a 5 is cold weather, and a 7 is sustained high speed. I look in the parts bucket... the scooter came with an ngk4 in the engine. I asked for an ngk6 at dealer when I got my new rear tire but here in the cylinder I find, after putting it in without a 2nd look till now, an ngk8. Could this be adding to my stumble off idle issues? It's looking like, big surprise, rich mixture(bystarter is suspect from purchase date.) Is the ngk6 just not around anymore? Does it make any real difference?

I wonder how I ended up with the "8". Is it too hot a plug? the nose on it is NOTICEABLY longer than a "6" plug. I was actually wondering about piston contact. It's scary long, really.

What motor do you have? pre 94 elites take bPr6hsa and 94 and above take br6hsa.
I had a shop tell me the "P" means projected and is longer. I don't have plugs in front of me to check.

83 Aero 80. The manual lists 5, 6 and 7. The scooter was bought with a 4 in it, I asked for a 6 but it reads 8. bpr6es is what is recommended
