honda Spree Carb to intake manifold bolt threads?

Post by Moparmick »

Anyone have any ideas on how to rethread carb to intake safely? On a spree , I have 3 different carbs and all have 1 or both bolt holes stripped, cant get air tight seal between carb and intake, having trouble getting it to run, found this as the only obvious problem, any help appreciated. Thanks, Mick

Heilcoil or nuts on the back side of the carb. Then again, new carb.

Helicoil, Timesert or other repair is a good repair, but may cost a bit if the owner has to buy the set.

On the Spree, if threads on the bystarter side are stripped, a 'jam nut' is an easy fix, but requires care with bolt length. The bolt must not come in contact with the bystarter side housing. Add washers or grind as required.

-- Hazard --
When the bolt hits the housing, it can/will distort the bore the bystarter air valve (outer brass collar) has a close slide fit with. Distortion of the carb body freezes up the bystarter .

-- Alternate low cost repair --
Some have drillled/tapped for 1/4 x 20 threads.

A screwdriver will hold the nut if a thin 10mm wrench is not handy.

in my expierence the heli coil is really hard to use on the carb because the thread holes arent deep enough the nut works the best..

I got a m6 (stock bolt size) helicoil kit from autozone for $28. you just need a drill and a 1/4" drill bit. or send the carbs to me for $2 a hole + shipping
