Trying to start 1983 Honda Aero 50 -- running out of ideas

Hi everybody, this is my very first post. I have read all kinds of suggestions of how to start my Aero 50. I am running out of ideas.

Here is the situation:
I have a 1983 Aero 50 that has been sitting for 10 years. Pack rats chewed up some of the wiring while it was in the shed. I spent a few days cleaning out the gas tank. I boiled the carb. I put it back on, still didnt start

Here is what I have done based on some of the suggestions from forums:

- Replaced the carb. (with a new carb from a 1985 aero, but I found a forum post where someone wrote a guide of how to do it)
- Replaced the battery
- Replaced the wiring, lights work, turn signal, etc.
- Replaced Petcock
- Checked fuse
- Checked compression, compression is low at about 60. manual recommendation is 170.
- Sprayed starter fluid into carb

Running out of ideas.. Any thoughts?

Compression at 60? She's not going to start.

She'll start with 60 PSI. If you haven't, put some oil down the cylinder and recheck compression... rings may be stuck.

Is the air filter in place?

Search "barn find" in Wikipedia for general guidelines on getting dead bikes going.

It sounds like she really wants to start. I have included a picture of my new air filter and carb.
I am a newb when it comes to mopeds but I have a little knowledge in small engine repair.

So does it look like I need to rebuild?
I poured a little oil down into the spark plug hole, it really sounded like it wanted to start, then when back to normal

how much oil should i pour down there? I put about a couple tablespoons total now.

Here is a pic of the air filter. I tried putting a dry sponge inside it to restrict the air flow too.. just to simulate the OEM air filter, still didnt work

My 1985 Aero will not start at 60 PSI so I doubt his will.

Having the same problem with my 83 aero nb50. We have changed everything but the carburator and can't seem to find one for this model. If you get any better answers I'd love to hear from you.

So -- What now?

Should I tear the bike apart and see whats going on inside?
How do I improve compression?

-- I have been looking for aftermarket parts for this 83 Aero 50 and haven't had any luck.
I planned to put on a big bore kit, but I can't find one.

anyone know where I could find new piston rings for example?

-- Thanks

It's been sitting for 10 years. I'm betting his rings are stuck in the grooves... unless it was put away with low compression.

Put some 2-stroke oil in the spark plug hole and re-check compression.

Ok I got it started and took it around the block a couple times. The exhaust was clogged up a little.
what kind of oil would be best for this bike? Can I put any two stoke oil into it?

No, you want an Air Cooled Oil injection oil.

I bought a carb off ebay that is supposed to go to an 85'
I just had to trim the cable that goes into the carb back a little bit.

Try cleaning out the exhaust pipe. That might make it start
