Bad Rectifier

Post by thekingof7 »

Hey guys, more Spree fun :D

Just noticed that my battery isn't receiving a charge (no starter, no horn, lights, etc until running)
Would this be a full blown alternator or just a bad rectifier?
Working on getting a multimeter over here, but does anyone have any clues as to what I should be focusing on?

Cheers

Could be either OR both. Troubleshoot it. The service manual has the procedures in it.

I agree check the easy stuff first. Then move on to the rectifier.

Just got back from a campin trips :D on to scoots.

Well I just grabbed the battery about 2 months ago but it was a strange non sealed off brand one. I'll test it though. Would there be any specific "riding" test to determine whether culprit is more likely a bad rectifer than alternator, I don't have a multimeter here and would rather it be the 4 dollar part. :D
When riding and coming to a stop the turns signals become erratic and extra "clicky" until the throttle is pulled and signals work again. Would this at least mean the rect. is working as current is being converted over just not charged? Forgive me if I am understanding the charging system on this scoot incorrectly.

-Best Wishes

:D I have one of the awful scans, and I did. But as I said earlier, no multimeter, which is necessary for the tests that I found in the manual. Hence me asking for other, more readily apparent indicators.

Try and remember when you first started building your tool set, and all the workarounds you had to experience until it was a full set.

Thanks for the tip bear! Snapped one up at the H&F for 5 bucks :D
Did a few quick tests in the failing light, and it appears the battery is not holding a charge (barely 11v) when throttling the engine with the poles pressed to te still connected battery the voltage jumps to approx 14 immediately so I am assuming my charging system is fine. Placed a bid on ebay from a reputable vendor.
