spree starts then dies

Post by alexcarey »

hey everyone i have searched and tried everything i could find but now im out of ideas. my spree will start first kick no problem every time but it wont idle well and dies pretty quick espciallt if i give it gas. but sometimes it will rev up and go for about 20 feet then die. when it does that i can go wot. heres a list of what ive tried.

fresh gas
new oil
new fuel lines
cleaned and inspected petcock
cleaned and inspected carb about 10 times
polished float needle seat
checked compression (over 125)
new spark plug
new battery
inspected oil pump
tried running without fuel cap

it is def getting gas through the lines so the strainer is fine. i installed clear fuel line and it fills up just fine.
does anyone have any other things i can try?

Do you have the stock air filter in the airbox with the lid on it?

I can't clean the carb again, there's nothing left to clean haha. Really though, the carb is spotless and I've cleaned every jet and passage. Yes stock box filter and lid.

there is a pilot jet in the bowl of the carb that is very small and is hard to get clean. my guess would be that its still clogged

There's likely a lot of links members can supply. Pilot jet does have a small orifice, and when clogged can be pesky to unclog. Carb cleaner dips, chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, boiling etc are means which folks clean the pilot jet. IMHO - Wires, needles are the final resort - and have been there. When the pilot is clear and the light is right you can see a 'dot of light' through the pilot jet.

Mouse cutaway view of the pilot jet.
